Today I return to that thought - What might have been. When World War I ended, and after humanity reviewed the carnage, assessed the cost in misery, loss of life, and the destruction left to future generations to repair, at that time our World had a chance to learn from its mistake - the failure to promote peace and goodwill, and find ways to avert a repeat of the death and destruction. Alas, the World community took a different road, Cause that was then, and we have taken different roads.
Twenty years later history was to repeat itself, but this time the carnage tremendously exceeded the previous disgrace and once again the World rose up to injure itself and burden future generations with the task of repairing a torn and bleeding orb, a place from which no earthling could escape the incredible cruelty of mankind.
Again humanity had an option to examine lessons learned, and to find ways to prevent the underlying causes that precipitated the second assault on the people of the World. The United Nations was set up to do this very thing. Avoid carnage by finding diplomatic means to settle issues. But there's no use givin in, and there's no way to know, what might have been, cause that was then, so once again we have take different roads. As to the future - Just what might that be?
The most important question is: Will we ever learn? And if we don't? The Nuclear Nations currently have the capacity, in a third conflagration, to end this cycle by ending life on earth. But then there will be no living being to muse What might have been?

We can and must put a stop to this situation we have in our America and the World. We are fomenting the seeds of that third scenario right now, this minute, and have been going in this direction for some time. We have among us those that want to take from the World all things of value, for their personal gain, and if they can't get it without destroying the World again, then they feel that they can profit from that destruction.
You see, this group thinks it will survive because they have divine right to take from the weak.
In our midst we suffer an administration that is a microcosm of the emperor-sickness. They are taking from you and me things of value - things such as the right to be free to pursue happiness in our everyday lives, the American dream, to be free in our thoughts and liberties, the freedom to disagree, and the right to expect that the rule of law will be properly applied to all, and if we don't stop this trend now, if we pass on this chance, and if we allow this Administration to take us once again down the road to World Destruction...
History will most likely repeat itself because we have failed humankind by not demanding what must be.
We must never forget that the moment belongs to us. Our decisions now determine our future. We must choose our course. Wisely. Now. By examining what lesson history has revealed to us, so that we won't choose that road again. We must make a change in 2008, if we decide to change before then (and we have that ability within us), we can choose even another road. This Administration is trying mightily to embroil us in another war before 2008.
Let us not lament "I try not to think about what might have been".
