Highest Skyscraper – Saudi Arabia ready to start building the tallest skyscraper in the world. The building was going to beat the current highest building in Dubai.
Arabia signed a contract of more than U.S. $ 1 billion for the tower that will soar as high as two-thirds of a mile (1072 meters). The tower was named Kingdom Tower and includes a Four Seasons hotel, apartments, luxury condominiums and office area of approximately 5.4 million square feet.
Highest Skyscraper As Symbol Of Success Country
The plan was to make Saudi Arabia lead in the race between the oil-rich Gulf states in the field of architecture. The projects were seen as a status symbol to show off their economic success.
Kingdom Holding Co., an investment firm led by billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, said it had signed a contract 4.2 billion riyals (U.S. $ 1.2 billion) with Binladin Group to build the Kingdom Tower on the outskirts of the Red Sea, Jeddah.
“The decision of the partners to build the Highest Skyscraper in the world show their confidence in investing in this country,” said Talal Al Maiman, KHC Board members and the Jeddah Economic Co who signed the deal with the Binladin Group.
“We want the Kingdom Tower to be the economic engine of the Saudi kingdom and symbol of pride in the world community,” said Al Maiman. “We envision a new Kingdom Tower as an icon of history as a gateway to Jeddah and the holy city of Mecca.”
This business is also seen as an important part of the Saudi ambition to maintain healthy growth by diversifying the economic base of crude oil that has fueled the economy for decades.
The tower was designed by Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill Architecture, Chicago, and is the first phase of the planned Kingdom City, an urban development project covering an area of 2 square miles worth U.S. $ 20 billion. The project was announced in 2008 when the global financial crisis occurred.

Along with the glitzy project, the Saudis also pumped more than U.S. $ 120 billion in the next few years to the creation of jobs and housing for low-income residents.
