Of all the platitudes cited to invade Iraq, nurturing Democracy struck the noble chord in the hearts and minds of the American People as a proper justification for war. We deemed this war effort worth the cost of blood and gold predicted by our leaders, but its consequence has revealed terroristic methods used in our name to prosecute this war. This form of deception is not only impeachable conduct, it is criminal behavior.
Presently, Our Government is framing its next victim of our failed foreign policy. After inserting other surrogates to lead the fledgling Democracy in Iraq, and then extracting them once they proved unsuitable for our Government's use, our chief Executives and some Representatives in Congress are now growing weary of Nouri al-Maliki's leadership or perceived lack thereof in stabilizing his country.
Or is his conduct a conscientious effort to dawdle as he exercises his prescribed responsibilities because he deems them unworthy of a gentleman's effort and damaging to his country's future if fulfilled?
Of what is Mr. Maliki being accused? Of not bringing an end to the destruction of his countrymen and country. What would be his motive for behaving so rudely? Does he not love his country as all patriots do? Does the daily carnage not tear at his soul? Does he have no means to resolve the war? If he is dawdling, then why?
A perception of one's own supremacy is the bane of foolish leaders, defeated militias, and the cock-sure protagonists of war. To underestimate the patience, resolve, and wisdom of an adversary is to make him your superior. The result is a self-inflicted wound borne from ignorance.
The constructive business of nations is trade; the destructive business of nations is conquest; and either can benefit men and countries whose businesses are so disposed.
Men can produce goods and services that build, heal, and improve the condition of mankind.Or men can lend their talents to the production of war in all its various disguises, whether this be the manufacture of war goods, the provision of war services, or the employment, training, and deployment of soldiers of war.
Those who study the process of war understand all wars must come to an end; human endurance for sustained madness is not infinite. And if well positioned, businesses involved in activities promoting both peace and war, can lend their support to either peace or war -- as need arises -- and so they plan accordingly.
(Article Continues Below)
They can take the 'war departments' of their businesses, and support the conduct of war. And once the war ends, they can take the 'peace departments' of their businesses and repair what war has destroyed; that being the physical plant of the conquered country; not the human damage. People are the renewable and inexhaustible resource that warriors will never want for; the primary natural resource for war is human life.
Who provides the blood and gold to perpetuate this evil endeavor? We the Taxpayers; and those to whom we will be eternally indebted and never able to justly compensate; the sacrificed on both sides. When the interests of a business profit it from both war and peace, serious questions arise; this would seem the extreme example of conflicting interests. But when a business is engaged in both at the same time, the character of the business is defined beyond question.
While our Executives and Legislators publicly ignore this question, Mr. al-Maliki cannot afford to be so disposed. He sees the hypocrisy in our elected leaders as they choose to avoid knowing why we went to and are at war.
A fledgling democracy fighting for national identity is not helped when those who brought war offer suggestions for peace with unacceptable reservations. What do the warriors seek to reserve for themselves? What in Iraq is worth reserving?
Because of two decades of sanctions, Iraq has no industrial base. Because of its geography, it has limited agriculture capacity. Because of its geology, it has but one significant natural resource. What in Iraq is worth reserving? Oil reserves.
The Iraqi Government is conducting the business of the People of Iraq in the best interest of the People of Iraq -- and in the best manner they see fit and are able to -- given their present circumstance. Wise men do not sell their property because their homes have been destroyed; they rebuild.
Fools alone will attempt to rebuild a house while the fire is still burning. This is work our Government should shun, but appears intent on pursuing.
All wars must end; now is the time for this one.
