The Politics of Food
How do we bring down the State? Our Congress doesn't listen to us when we ask for an end to ruinous, immoral, and unconstitutional wars. The Mass Media conspires to downplay the viability of the one candidate for President(Ron Paul) who has rational answers for the crucial questions facing our republic(if we can still call it that!). Demonstrations are dangerous for our health. What's left?
How about a general boycott of as much of the State-subsidied economy as possible?
Since the State refuses to stop subsidizing Big Oil, we individually can stop driving so much - bike to work, use mass transit, walk. Don't buy a new car if you're serious about undercutting the power that feeds off your consumption through its preferred campaign contributors: Big Oil, Big Agribusiness, Big Pharma, Detroit Big Iron.
Are you willing to give up something for peace and better government? Or is it all talk? Then stop doing business with the State's approved contractors and campaign contributors!
Practically everything the State does is ass-backwards. We all know it, but how many of us are doing something about it? I'm not sure that voting counts for much anymore. Let's try something Gandhian, like boycotting the major fascist State industries. Stop giving them money to oppress us! Make sense?
Grow a Victory Garden in place of your lawn! Stop feeding Archer Daniels Midland, etc., the money they use to enslave us to debilitating processed "foods". If we are dependent on Corporate America to feed us, we will be subject to their inflation, which is impoverishing the American poor and middle class. Grow your own and free your family from one of the State's biggest sponsors. If you can't grow any food for yourself, then buy from your local CSA(community supported agriculture) or organic farm coop. You'll save money, eat healthier, and support good people.
Here's a big one: For the sake of the poor around the world, stop eating meat. Why put 7-9 calories of plant protein into raising animals, when people abroad are starving for lack of beans and grains? Eating meat is a luxury, apart from the cruelty involved for the animals. Meat and dairy products from Big Agribusiness are swell ways to concentrate all the toxic pesticides, herbicides, and hormones, so we can ingest them and keep Big Pharmaceuticals busy dealing with our health problems. Don't buy it if you don't support it.
Here's an eye-opening article that just appeared in the New York Sun: http://www2.nysun.com/article/74994/ The rise in food prices and spot shortages are not isolated occurences, but part of a growing trend brought on by our insane federal government fiscal, energy, and farm policies. Thanks to globalization and the loss in value of the dollar, the Chinese may soon outbid Americans for foods we grow here. Watch for it!
Don't allow yourself to be a victim. Become a victor.

For some background on what we're encouraged to eat - and who profits from it - watch "The Future of Food" (It's on DVD. I got a copy from my local library.) It is about the insidious drive to patent our seed varieties by the Big Ag industry. Spreading GMO genes into natural crops and then suing farmers for infringing Monsanto's patent when there is the inevitable cross-pollination. Scary!
For good measure, watch "Supersize Me!" if you haven't already. See how our highly processed junk foods are killing us.
If you've ever wondered what happened to your youth and health, look at what you've been led to believe is a normal diet. Wonder why you can't seem to lose weight? Read the labels of the food and drinks you habitually consume. (I have for forty years and it has made it easier to keep away from downright dangerous foods that are seductively marketed to us.)
Not only will you be sapping the power of the State by growing some of your own food - you can save as much as $2500 per family member if you grow 85% of what you eat. That's TAX FREE money you get to keep in your bank account. Visit my blog for details on how to do this: http://commonwealthfarm.blogspot.com/
It's time for American populists to stop paying to support the corporate state which is causing us so much trouble. When so much of our economy is built on manufacturing/importing useless crap and selling it to us, keeping us from saving more of what we earn; when so much harm is done by our War Industry around the world and at home, why are we paying them to wreck our world?
Boycott the devils!
If the Big Corporations who really run this country won't listen to our demands for peace and economic justice through our electoral process, then let's hit them where they live: in the pocketbook!
Finding legal ways to cut our federal taxes is the best way to stop participating in the State's murderous interventionist policies around the world - and especially in regard to their foolish attempts to capture by force the oil we use to run this insane American Way of Life. What has our investment of $3 trillion and four thousand American lives done for the price of oil?
Surprise our corporate masters - Don't buy their crap! You'll feel empowered and to some degree you'll withhold money from those who don't care if you live or die, as long as it profits them.
