This week's 5th Anniversary of the killing in Iraq is a somber one. The path this country is on right now, the path of empire and militarism, will only guarantee us more violence, death, and loss of liberty.
This state of affairs is intolerable.
The right plan, in the short term, is the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq. Now. Not when the violence "subsides." Not when Iraq has a stable government. Not when more Iraqi forces are trained. Not when the Democrats tell us the war is over, not when the Republicans tell us the war is over, and not when we have a new president.
The time to leave Iraq is now. Not in the fall. Not next year. Not next month or next week. Today. Not tomorrow. Right now.

Estimates tell us that potentially upwards of 1 million Iraqis have been killed, and nearly 10% of the population has fled. Even if the numbers are far less, when will enough be enough?
How about on the American side? 4000 Soldiers are dead, 30,000 are wounded and 100,000+ have applied for disability.
In a free country, aggressive war should never be used as a tool of foreign policy. Using force to impose what American politicians consider to be a proper government for Iraq violates every principle of freedom which this country is supposed to stand for. Therefore, five years of war is definitely five years too long.

Ron Paul made a great statement recently calling for a quick end to the war - and we totally agree:
"As I have repeatedly said when discussing United States policy in Iraq, when you find yourself going the wrong way down a one-way street, you need to look for the nearest off-ramp. The only solution to the mess in Iraq is to promptly bring our troops home. Our bad policy spans at least ten years and two presidents and has had severe costs in lives and economic consequences. Continuing down the same road will solve nothing and compound our already substantial problems."
When a government that rules in our name engages in torture, killing, and war, the number one question that will be asked of us someday is this: Did you rise in opposition to it? Did you speak out against it? Or, did you approve of it by remaining silent?
