Cheryl Abraham's article, "A Future without Impeachment Paints a Bleak Picture," paints a grim picture.
Actually, the scene was set for Cheney/Bush when Nixon was allowed to resign (necessary for a pardon. Impeachment has no pardon) then was pardoned over the protests of millions. The argument was that Nixon was out of power now, that a trial would "denigrate" the presidency, and that "We must, as a nation, move on."
The reality, though, was that nothing could have denigrated the presidency anymore than what ended up happening - letting a crook abuse his office and the Constitution, then resign with his ill gotten gains.
It told the greedy and power hungry that any two-bit crook, if he became president, could rape the country, or give it to his cronies and walk away unscathed. And so it has come to pass.
We stop it now with impeachment, or kiss the United States as we knew it, good-bye.
