About the Populist Party

The Populist Party
The Populist Party declares that the time has come for each citizen of the United States to claim true autonomy over his or her own personage, and exclaim, at last, that they are the true sovereign over themselves, and that the People themselves are the constituent sovereign of our nation.

The Populist Party urges each person to declare, "I am the politician who practices authority over my own fate.  I am guided through my existence by my own aspirations, which are shaped by my own vision of the Good Life."

The preceding, although a generalized statement, does capture the essence of a new Populist movement; which consists of dismantling the plutocracy that dominates American politics, economics, and culture, and rebuilding it on true principles of liberty

The Populist Party advocates a direct democracy and a strictly limited government as a replacement for the corruption of pure "representative" government - with the assurance of liberty for every person, as codified in the Bill of Rights.  To ensure freedom, the People of America must be directly involved in the decision-making processes of the country, which are currently controlled by a small class of elites; composed of professional politicians, corporate executives, and disciplinarian bureaucrats in both academia and the absurd amount of government agencies, which span from the local, municipal polities all the way to the central government.  What we advocate is nothing new.  We follow in the tradition of the first Populist Movement in America; The 'Anti-Federalists.'

In reading through this website, it will hopefully become apparent that the Populist Party of America is neither left nor right; and is inclusive of, and open to, all social persuasions.  Our position in the current political spectrum would be best summed up by an August 29, 1768 statement from John Adams:

"The favorites of parties, although they have always some virtues, have always many imperfections.  Many of the ablest tongues and pens have, in every age, been employed in the foolish, deluded, and pernicious flattery of one set of partisans, and in furious, prostitute invectives against another; but such kinds of oratory never had any charms for me; and if I must do one or the other, I would quarrel with both parties and with every individual of each, before I would subjugate my understanding, or prostitute my tongue or pen to either."
